Artists to Watch in 2023

We’re starting the new year off right with a look at some of the most exciting emerging artists to watch in 2023- with styles ranging from nature-inspired impressionism to bold and vibrant abstract art. If you’re looking to add some new pieces to your collection this year, this is a great place to start!

Here are our favorite artists to watch in 2023:

Niki Hare

Niki Hare is a self-taught artist hailing from the UK. She explores many mediums but enjoys working with paint the best. Her graphic abstract works often include letters and words in an array of vibrant hues. If you’re inspired by the unbridled use of color, Niki’s work will appeal to you!

“Painting is just a language that I am more comfortable with, it has an honesty, it is what it is. My work is very unprocessed, direct, I don’t see as I paint, just look at it sometime later, then start again or leave it alone until another time. I work with layers, building them up and scraping back, finding stuff I had forgotten about, the painting starts to get interesting, to develop its own past.”

Rebecca Klementovich

Rebecca Klementovich was a fashion art director and textile designer for over two decades, which inspired her love for color. She is best known for her abstract, colorful nature-inspired pieces. They have a unique style of their own that is perfect for those who love the stunning hues found in nature.

“When objects and the viewer’s third eye is activated there is a sight that is not of this dimension. As if the dance between the air molecules and the object molecules intermingle with each other. That vision is what I see in landscapes. It is as if the outline of the object is moving or sometimes disappearing.”

Felicia Trales

Felicia Trales is a European impressionist artist born in Romania, who is now a long-time resident of Portugal. She studied painting at the School of Folk Art in Resita, Romania. Her impressionist painting style is all about using vibrant colors and the contrast between light and dark.

“Painting is my way of life. It is what drives and fulfills me. It makes me feel complete. My art is about vibrant and strong colors, contrasts – a foreplay between light and shadow. The encounter with my art is a meeting with joy, with felicity.”

Juan Jose Garay

Juan Jose Garay was born in Madrid, Spain and trained with famous artist Amadeo Roca. His work is heavily inspired by American expressionist painters and abstract artists such as Jackson Pollock. His acrylic paintings are bold and complex, exploring hidden themes in a dynamic way.

“From a very young age I have been interested in everything related to comic drawing techniques. At the same time, I was training with the Master Painter Amadeo Roca. For many years, I was diversifying different painting techniques.”

Luc Villard

Luc Villard is a self-taught artist from France, who has been featured in many exhibitions across the country. His style is uniquely his own, showcasing the whimsy of cartoon elements alongside the bold lines of abstract art. If you’re looking for something unique, his pieces are sure to spark conversation!

“My abstract pieces contain themes of hidden faces and invented languages. Street art and ‘Les Shadocks’ (a French animated cartoon created by Jacques Rouxel which aired 1968–1974) have also influenced my compositions. Handling with the same ease pastel, acrylic, scissors, brush, I try to show my own vision of the world, to create my own reality.”

Franck De Las Mercedes

Franck De Las Mercedes is an internationally acclaimed artist from New York City. His work is inspired by pop culture, street art and his own childhood. His art doesn’t shy away from the daring use of colors and is visually arresting in the best way!

“Growing up in New York City, I was exposed to the colors and imagery of the city, decaying walls, torn-up ads and the effect that time and the elements have on surfaces. My surroundings and a fascination with the abstract expressionism movement played a major role in me becoming an artist.”

Diana Rosa

Diana Rosa is a Cuban-born artist who now resides in Canada. Her upbringing in the Caribbean influenced her perspective on how the earth, humans and animals interact. Her work uses sharp brush strokes, contrasting textures, and a range of mediums to tell a story of human emotion.

“I am always fascinated with the human story that all of us are living- often untold, sometimes unrecognized, but always significant. My paintings reflect the natural beauty of human emotions. They are a bridge from my imagination to theirs, and although the story I mean to tell may differ from what the viewer ultimately takes away, what is most important is that we have shared the tale.”
