Artist Statement:
Around my 10th birthday I developed a passion for photography and I started experimenting with different techniques in the darkroom of my parents.
Later when I settle in Amsterdam in 1983 and regularly visit the Stedelijk Museum, where I fell under the spell of a 'blue pie' by Ellsworth Kelly, I knew I had to join art school.
A disagreement with my photography teacher makes me ultimately choose the direction typography at the ‘School of Arts in Utrecht’. Since 1992 I have been working as a freelance art director / graphic designer for various - mostly cultural - institutions. In addition to these activities, I continued to work steadily to my art. It is then that my geometric abstract compositions start to refine and my interest towards concrete photography arises.
The photographs are derived from a unique method that combines contemporary technology like graphics software with historic photographic techniques. The process begins with the use of software to create a geometric composition. I then photograph that composition directly from the screen in a single shot.
Through investigating the dialogue between minimalism and strong shapes I hope to offer a glimpse into unknown territory, a convincing and clear parallel universe. But also a quiet and personal world, deep and as sober as colorful. To enhance this investigation I co-founded the artist group ‘Mother Universe (MU)’. Which consist of internationally acclaimed artists: Richard Caldicott (UK), Jesús Perea (E), Pieter Bijwaard (NL) and I.
My work is represented by a New York Gallery at art fairs like Art New York, Art Miami and Expo Chicago.
I shared exhibitions with: Robert Ryman, Ulay & Abramovic, Marlene Dumas, Jan Dibbets, Gottfried Jäger, Erwin Olaf, Thom Puckey, Fiona Tan, Hiroshi Sugimoto, etc.
All my work is unique. It comes in an edition of 1/1.
At the moment I work mostly in Bergen NH, The Netherlands.
“Non-figurative art does not tell a story and comes therefore closest to the truth.”

Artistic Influences:
My influences come from many different directions. Artist with a refined feeling for spaciousnes such as Ellsworth Kelly, Barnett Newman, Kazimir Malevich and composers like Steve Reich, Morton Feldman and Brian Eno. But also by architecture, nature and science.
