STATEMENT
I am inspired by the interaction of the community referenced for my two-dimensional paintings, as well as my interior and exterior installation work. I measure my artistic success solely on the conversations that the work creates.
ABOUT
Born December 16, 1982, Rochester, New York
Kristin Llamas is a painter and installation artist whose work is guided by community interaction. The artist’s medium can range from fine oil paintings to interactive public sculptures/installations spanning three-city blocks, however with each project Llamas relies on the community to direct the work.
These creative habits trend back to the beginning of Llamas’ professional history. The Nomadic Project, which propelled the artist to create and exhibit work in all fifty states including venues such as the Whistler Museum outside of Boston and the Ramsay Museum in Honolulu was lead by the interaction of an entire nation. K. Llamas and her husband, Alfonso toured the country with The Nomadic Project for three years before settling and starting a family in the Nashville area in 2008.
Since then, K. Llamas focus on painting large scale works, along with private, community and public art installations, collaborations, and symposiums. She is the founder of an international art movement called The YOUnite Tour which spans 56 countries and works collaboratively on city-wide installations with Alfonso Llamas. The artist couple together makes up the husband and wife artist team, AK Llamas ().
Along with visual art, Llamas has presented around the country about community interactive work, including a TEDx presentation in 2014. Her work can be found in collections at the Tennessee State Museum, Nashville, TN, Taube Museum of Art, Minot, ND and Parthenon Museum, Nashville TN. She has shown all around the U.S. as well as throughout Paris, Rome and Switzerland and is currently represented by Tinney Contemporary Gallery, Nashville and Trespass Gallery in Clarksville.
Both Llamas’ work in painting and AK Llamas collaborations have been frequently written about in city publications such as the Salt Lake Tribune, The Alexandria TImes and Nashville Arts Magazine.
