In mid-November,\u00a0the last privately owned painting by Leonardo da Vinci, entitled\u00a0Salvator Mundi<\/em>, sold at Christie\u2019s for\u00a0$450.3 million. It is officially the most expensive work of art ever sold at auction.\u00a0To be precise, it sold for more than twice the amount of the former most expensive work ever sold,\u00a0Picasso\u2019s Les femmes d\u2019Alger (Version \u2018O\u2019)<\/em>, which brought $179.4 million in 2015. The record breaking auction happened in under 20 minutes. Who bought it, you ask? Evidently an anonymous client of Christie\u2019s global co-head of contemporary art. \u00a0Interestingly enough, the client bid in increments as large as $30 million.<\/p>\n
