When this happens to me I look around my environment- at the seasons or various regional events, for ideas. Having just spent several months well below the Mason-Dixon Line in our nation&#8217;s South, a phenomenon that has recently peaked my interest is The Kentucky Derby.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2106\" style=\"width: 331px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/product\/details\/6483\/white-horse\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2106\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2106\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/Bruce-Wilhelm-White-Horse-zatista.com_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"321\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2106\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bruce Wilhelm &quot;White Horse&quot; zatista.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Widely considered the most prestigious horse race in the world and also known as &#8220;The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports&#8221;,\u00a0 ladies and gentlemen this is Derby Season.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2107\" style=\"width: 331px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-2107\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/hold-your-horses\/deborah-butterfield-3597-zolla-lieberman-gallery\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2107\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2107\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/Deborah-Butterfield-3597-Zolla-Lieberman-Gallery.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"321\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2107\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deborah Butterfield &quot;3597&quot; Zolla Lieberman Gallery<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In addition to the race itself, I am intrigued by the number of traditions which play a large role in the Derby atmosphere. The Mint Julep for instance, is the traditional beverage of the race. Also, &#8216;burgoo&#8217;, a thick stew of meat and vegetables, is a popular Kentucky dish served at the Derby.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2109\" style=\"width: 331px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/jonathan-adler-horse1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2109\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2109\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/jonathan-adler-horse1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"321\" height=\"494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.ie\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/jonathan-adler-horse1.jpg 265w, https:\/\/www.zatista.ie\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/jonathan-adler-horse1-259x400.jpg 259w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 321px) 100vw, 321px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2109\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jonathan Adler Horse<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I have also heard that the infield, a spectator area inside the track, offers general admission prices but little chance of seeing the race. Instead, revelers show up in the infield to party with abandon. On the other hand, &#8220;Millionaire&#8217;s Row&#8221; refers to the expensive box seats that attract the rich, the famous and the well-connected. And apparently it&#8217;s quite well known that women attend The Derby in expensive outfits lavishly accessorized with large, elaborate hats.
